Many practitioners and followers of Agile have been debating this for months with the underlying argument being ‘what is a better position to understand and aid someone?’.
Sympathy
Being sympathetic is the action of becoming that person. Having high enough emotional IQ to feel their pain, problems and frustrations and the brief understanding of living out their life in your shoes. To synchronise yourself to them.
Compassion
The act of caring for your fellow man. Instead of the case of becoming the person, in this situation you accept them as they are, faults and all, truly embracing the differences between them and you. To accept.
One of these comes from a place within, understanding by emulation the other forces you to accept the person and move towards a solution. Both have their time and place in coaching. It is your choice which you decide to use and when.
Be Super.
