The enemy of great plans are good ones.

Have you ever planned something so well but been blindsided out of the blue.

Premise

Chaos will always exist. Management of this is sometimes more important that the task itself.

Working at a certain level or capacity is one technique that can mitigate this. Instead of always being at 100, try using 60–80% of the total capacity with 20% spare. This would allow sufficient time and reduce the cost of content switching.

The other option is to reduce the work in progress or slack in the system. Having loads of things to do and worrying about things to come can be just as bad as the unknown. Try having less to focus on in your ToDo list and current work will free up more of your brains faculties and easier to cope with fire fighting.

Context switching, the unexpected are all apart of daily life. Being ready to tackle them is one of the major keys to productivity.

It is not always about planning for the wrong things to happen just make sure you focus on the right things first.
