Emphatic gamer achieving temporary success

So we always talk about the highs right? You know reaching that PINNACLE, beating that boss at the end of the level, securing that deal, buying the home, landing that woman/man you’ve been chasing for the better of what feels your entire life…
What’s next?

Downsides To Success

18 year old me winning my first gaming tournament

It was a packed event, I poured hours upon hours of practice to get to a level where I was tournament ready. (Very weird for people who don’t know this but video game tournaments are a serious thing and people are winning £££££££££££’s). After all my hard work I prevailed. I reached the top. What was left with me was this serious emptiness I had in my heart.
I forgot to very important things on my route to the top.
My purpose and my mission.

Purpose
- Was to beat everyone there on the day

Mission
- Was to wow the women in the room (I was young)

Now looking back there are sooooo many holes with this but this is how most of us frame our goals and our ambitions chasing them.
And for writers sake let me butcher a great quote…..

We aim way to low and hit

Your purpose should always be something attainable but a ridiculously amount of hard work to reach, in my case ‘To be the best player in London’, ‘Best in UK’, ‘Best with my character’.

Your mission should be something just out of your reach but through pursuing it brings out a certain excellence out of you and the best of you.
‘To wow women across the country with my play’ (following the theme as I was intensely shallow at the time’ or even ‘to show my prowess of fighting games to everyone worldwide that I am great at xxxx’.

This way by framing and really honing in on your mission and your purpose your goals/ambitions are fun to hit but at the same time you’re on a never ending wheel but instead of feeling the burnout? You are chasing something bigger than yourself.

Happy running!
