Troubleshooting

We are computers.

Your mind is a machine.

Imagine being an outdated computer or phone trying to run the latest firmware, at what point do you update yours?

  • How do people engage in discussions and not bring anything new?
  • When was the last time you updated your information?
  • Are you reading daily on this subject?
  • Surrounding yourself with knowledgable sources and not just groundless opinions?

Now. Try having discourse or a debate with someone like this. This is the equivalent of expecting your old toaster to have the capacity to comprehend a brand new air fryers capabilities.

The Problem

The vast majority of people behave, think and rationalise from this place. It has less friction with the day to day and no change in habit or function. It is easy to do.

Why bother learning about someone else’s position or stance?

Why not instead route your decisions on emotion or base your entire outlook on as far as you have been able to…seems logical right?

Wrong.

If we were cavemen, yes. In the world of today there is excuse to not educate yourself. We can communicate on a global scale but want to keep our minds within only what we can see. Preposterous. Especially on worldly matters.

The Secret Challenge

Now it’s all good an all recognising a deficiency in self but the next hurdle is even scarier, being an open canvas.

Being open and accepting of all ideals in theory is the way to go. In practice this can be disastrous. We leave ourselves open to voices across the entire planet but our own. Opinions. Facts. Ideas. Even arguments. All of them from outside self. Nothing original. An echo chamber. Soulless. A puppet orchestra, an actor for a film whose director is nowhere in sight.

If there is nothing there you are not adding to it, you are becoming it. Red paint on a white wall will always be red if there are not colours to mix it with.

Firmware Updating

So what can we do to avoid these scenarios. A simple rule.

Don’t expect version 1.0 to do what only version 2 can.

Check in with yourself regularly. When you are involving another party or talking on a subject ask yourself.

  • When was the last time I read/studied about what I am talking about?
  • Does my position come from an inherited one, can I explain it in a sentence or two?

Just these two questions should be enough for you to shutdown, reassess and upgrade your way of thinking.

Give it a whirl.

Be Super
